Terrorists seized a five star hotel in the capital of Kenya

The Reuters agency reports that on the evening of January 15, militants of the terrorist group Harakat al-Shabab al-Mujahiddin (Movement of Young Mujahideen) attacked a 5 * hotel in the center of Kenya’s capital Nairobi.

In the beginning, two explosions occurred at the elite hotel and presentation complex Dusit Nairobi 5 * (probably bombs were planted in the cars coming to the parking lot), which created a panic and allowed a small group of armed militants to break into the building and partially seize the hotel.

The attackers were able to capture a small number of hostages, but many managed to escape, while most of the guests on the upper floors managed to barricade all entrances.

At the scene of the incident, part of the Kenyan Special Forces quickly arrived, which quickly enough went to the assault, which prevented the militants from increasing the number of hostages and strengthening themselves in the hotel.

Note that this complex of buildings is located in an elite area of the city and is one of the most popular places for foreigners to live and work in the Kenyan capital, and Islamists were attacked in the same area in 2013, when 67 people were killed in an attack on the Westgate shopping center. Generally, Kenya, as a fairly developed African country with a predominantly Christian population, has for many years been one of the main targets of the jihadists from Somalia and South Sudan, who have repeatedly made similar attacks on its territory. The most bloody terrorist attack in Kenya was the seizure of hostages by armed Islamists at the University of Nairobi in 2015, during which more than 150 people died. According to the latest data, as a result of an attack by militants, 7 people were killed and 25 wounded, among whom there are foreigners.

Also yesterday, in a statement to the Arab media by telephone, the press secretary of Al-Shabab, Abd al-Aziz Abu Musa, confirmed the responsibility of this terrorist organization for the attack.
